Bangladesh :

Bangladesh, after winning their first game against south Africa, seemed to have lost their magic touch as they lost 2 consecutive matches against New Zealand and England respectively. Against the Kiwis, it was a closely fought encounter which they lost by two wickets. but England decimated them by 106 runs as Bangladesh looked in their older selves playing like a minnow.

With an in-form Shakib Al Hasan in their ranks, Bangladesh are the favourites for this game given their resurgence in white-ball cricket over the last few years. All eyes will be on the opening pair of Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar, who have looked good with making a substantial impact on proceedings.

Mohammad Mithun could make way for Liton Das after a no-show against England. Das had a good outing against India in the warm-up game and could be a viable replacement. The rest of the side should remain the same with the likes of Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Saifuddin revelling with bat and ball respectively.

The Bangladeshi bowling has also been pretty good so far. All the bowlers have been disciplined apart from Mashrafe Mortaza. His bowling does not have any threat to the opposition and we don’t think he would be in the team were he not the captain.Someone line Rubel Hossain would be much more effective if he would be given the chance.

Sri Lanka :

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have one of the weakest sides in the tournament. After losing the first game against New Zealand by 10 wickets, the islanders have managed to steady their ship. They won their 2 game against Afghanistan and very lucky got themselves a point in the next against Pakistan, after it was washed out.

In contrast to the settled and experienced Bangladesh side, the Sri Lankan side ended up making a lot of changes just ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019. Also, their best players, Angelo Matthews, has been struggling to score runs and is hiding in the middle order rather than leading from the front.

Kusal Perera, Dimuth Karunaratne, and Lahiru Thirimanne are the players that need to score the bulk of the runs for Sri Lanka. We believe this side has the batting to be able to win matches. Kusal Mendis, Angelo Matthews, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Thisara Perera are not in good form but they are very talented players.

In such a case, Avishka Fernando could make an appearance in the top order while Jeffrey Vandersay should get the nod over Jeevan Mendis instead of Pradeep. Kusal Perera and Dimuth Karunaratne are pivotal to Sri Lanka’s fortunes with their fragile middle order taken into account. Both Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews have failed with the bat, leading to two middle-order capitulations and would want to set the record straight against a decent Bangladesh bowling unit.
