Afghanistan :

Afghanistan suffered their third successive World Cup defeat last Saturday after New Zealand chased down their modest total of 173 with seven wickets and 107 balls to spare as once again their batting struggled as they collapsed from 66/0.

Hazratullah is happy slogging at the beginning of the inning while Mohammad Nabi does not seem to be able to adapt his game to the 50 over format. Every single batsman in the Afghanistan lineup is going to have to play better than what we have seen in this tournament if Afghanistan is to have any hope of competing with the South Africans.

Afghanistan has a very good spin bowling attack and they can exploit some of the weaknesses in the South African camp. Bowlers like Mujeeb, Rashid Khan, and Mohammad Nabi can all be very difficult to handle when in form.

Rashid Khan is the 11/10 favourite to be Afghanistan top bowler. Ranked Three in the ODI bowler rankings (and Ranked Two in the all-rounder rankings, by the way), he’s also the fourth highest ODI wicket taker in the world over the past two years, boasting the best strike rate of anyone in the Top 50.

South Africa :

South Africa have already had an abandoned match, and going by the weather forecast, they might have to share one point each yet again. They had played four matches in this world cup and have not won at least one match.

Rassie van der Dussen had a groin issue, but he’s fit to play. David Miller has been reasonable. In the bowling department, the pacers- Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, and Chris Morris- have been amongst the wickets, though they haven’t been outstanding. There’s no update on Lungi Ngidi’s return. Veteran leg-spinner Imran Tahir has picked up a few crucial wickets as well.

In some rare good news for the South Africans, fast bowler Lungi Ngidi is expected to be fit for the Afghanistan match after a side strain ruled him out of the game against the West Indies and that is a major boost for them.

Kagiso Rabada, Chris Morris, Imran Tahir, and Beuran Hendricks are far superior to anything the Afghans can muster together.Phehlukwayo at a considerably bigger 18/1. He’s one of four SA players on four wickets, proof that he’s not just a handy bowler, but a key one. He’s taken at least one wicket in all of his four matches so far.
